Morocco hiking in Draa valley to Chegaga Dunes: Camel tour in Draa valley 8 days (n°7)

PROGRAMM:

Day 1: OUARZAZATE OR MARRAKECH

Arrival, welcome and assistance at the airport.
Transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: MARRAKECH OR OUARZAZATE - ZAGORA - M'HAMID - ERG ZMILA

Transfer early morning to Zagora and crossing the chain of the high atlas Mountain via the pass Tizi n'Tinififft to join Draa valley, its Ksour , its Kasbah and its Oasis: Agdz, Zagora, Tamgrout et Askjour.
From Zagora, departure towards M'Hamid for a meeting with our caravan team. Here is the desert gate. Bivouac near erg zmila dunes. Overnight in Bivouac. Approximately 1h30 walk.

Day 3: ERG ZMILA - SIDI NAJI

Discovery of desert landscapes ; pleasure of walking on a sandy universe and the atmosphere of the caravan team, the slowly ride of camels. The day begins with the crossing through "erg zmila" dunes. Bivouac. 5-6h walk.

Day 4: SIDI NAJI - ERG ZAHER

The caravan go towards Erg Zaher Dunes, to the West. Each dune is different. It's a silence and warm colorful world. Overnight in Bivouac. 5-6h walk.

Day 5: ERG ZAHER - ERG SMAR

Departure to the "Oued Dra" crossing by a village and its isolated oasis, then we go to "erg Smar". The caravan of camels walks on dunes . From the sandy hills, the landscape is outstanding: a giant sandy beach. We cross a plateau to join the "Erg Sedrat". Bivouac in the dunes. 5-6h walk until the camp.

Day 6: ERG SMAR - ERG CHEGAGA

Continuation by Oued Attach towards Erg Chegaga dunes. It's the higher belt of sand dunes of Morocco with the dunes of Erg Elabidliya. Go for a walk on the afternoon to admire the sunset.Bivouac. 5-6h walk.

Day 7: ERG CHEGAGA - OUARZAZATE ou MARRAKECH

Early in the morning, departure with a 4x4 (after thank the camel team) to Chegaga by the slope and the long chott (salt lake) Iriki until Foum Zguid where there is at last a road. Or return to M'Hamid (60 jl of slope) and continuation by Zagora, Agdez and ouarzazate. Lunch after Foum Zguid or in Agdez. Ride by oasis valley until Tazenakht, visit of Ait Ben Haddou , famous by its Kasbah and its Ksar. Night at Ouarzazate hotel or return to Marrakech.

Day 8: DEPARTURE

Transfer to the airport for departure.
End of our services.

To Trek camel you need comfortable baggy clothes and, for extended treks, a good pair walking shoes. It can be warm and sunny during the day but, autumn through to late spring, temperatures drop at sundown when you need warm clothes e.g. layers, fleece and a wind-proof jacket.

We recommend a sleeping bag liner in summer and a sleeping bag for autumn through to late spring.

REMEMBER your rubbish - carry out what you carry in.

Camels carry your luggage - soft bags are essential and two small bags is better than one large one.
