Discovery of the Eastern Middle Atlas - 8 days

PROGRAM

DAY1: Arrival at FES airport

Reception and transfer to the lodging of Charm at RAS AL MA (Azrou) (1 hour).Possibility of  a visit of the station of pisciculture, breeding of trout and the discovery of the site surroundings. 
Night and dinner at the lodging of Charm, briefing.

DAY 2 : Ras al ma - Village of Ait hamza in Eastern Atlas - Ifkiren

9:30: Transfer by minibus towards the village of ait Hamza in Eastern Atlas (1h30mn). The visit of this Berber village and the tribe of ait youssi, where a lunch is envisaged, will be the occasion to discover the artisanal female co-operative, the initiatives of development of the village association of Ait Hamza as well as the local architecture. It is also an opportunity to explore the principal village agricultural cultures: cultures of the leguminous plants (scanty lenses, weights, broad beans) (period of harvest from May to June), the fields of cereals (corn and barley) which give a rural landscape contrasted with the colors of the natural plants (poppies,...) during spring, and the market gardenings of mountains (potato, zucchinis,...). In July, the tribe organizes the interethnic mousem of "Tamghart". (5 hours of walk)

Day 3: Discovery of cultures and berber traditions

 Departure from the lodging of Amazir Kasbah at Ifkiren by minibus to El mers village (12 km, 30 mn). Beginning of the walk towards the rustic village of Taghazout, passing by the gorges of Tasra and the discovery of the paleontological site of dinosaurs traces ( photographs break, a bath in the river and relaxation).  Continuation of the excursion towards the hot sources with the possibility of bathe and relaxation (5 hours of excursion).
Transfer to the historical site of Ighrem amekrane, while skirting the kasbahs valley (45 mn). Then we will visit this old kasbah of more than 500 years, perched on a hill with a very beautiful sight on all the valley. Discovery of the  Berber architecture (3heures of walk).

DAY 4 : Natural hiking in the valley of Ait Mama 

Transfer towards the hot sources (30 mn).  Beginning of the excursion in the splendid valley of Ait Mama,skirting the edges of Ait Mama river, passing by the splendid Berber village of Aghazdis and the forests of holm oak, observation of the sedentary birds(Oskou larks, black blackbird, fishing Martin, peak épêhe,...).Lunch is envisaged in this splendid valley. A small nap is possible before continuing the excursion towards Has Ali O Zekri. Transfer to the lodging at Ain Abakhbakh (6 hours of constant excursion).

Day 5 : Hiking at Talzemt

9:00: Transfer to the village of Imouzzer Mermoucha (literally passage of Brace). Visit of Immouzzer Mermoucha souk, a large specifically traditional fair where we can meet rural women who have an astonishing commercial knowledge.  Going to Talzemt by minibus. a meeting with the team of muleteers. the hikers will cross a large forest of cedar, authentic villages and particularly the typical village of Taghrout, in direction of Aranyoub: place of a meal under Ali's Berber tent. A nap is possible. Transfer to the lodging (5 hours of excursion).
The dinner will be around a campfire (when conditions allow it) outside the lodging of the Kasbah to appreciate the local popular music and take part in the Berber dance of the Middle Atlas.

Day 6 : Ifkiren - Boulemane - Lodging at the Lake of Dayet Aoua

 During the way of 2 hours and a half of road, you will appreciate the changes of landscapes between the Middle Eastern Atlas and the Middle Central Atlas. A tea break is envisaged in boulemane city. 
We will have lunch at the lodging of  Dayet Aoua within a fruit-bearing exploitation.
After midday, a number of activities will be proposed: visit of the Lake of Dayet Aoua, possibility of strolls by horse, visits of the forest of holm and the carpet industry.

Day 7 : A visit of FES city and its old Medina 

 Discovery of one of the biggest medieval cities of the kingdom. Fes is a spiritual city which is famous for its Quaraouine University, its religious centers, its historic buildings and its old medina. you will also discover Fes el bali (old Fes) and El Mellah (district Jews). lunch is envisaged at the old medina.
Night and dinner at the lodging of the Lake of Dayet Aoua.

Day 8 : Departure

 Breakfast at the lodging of Dayet Aoua, relaxation, strolls..

transfer by minibus to FES airport (30 mn).

It is about a mountain Trek without notable technical difficulty. It is necessary to be in a good physical condition and to be able to walk for 5 to 6 hours each day, with a quiet rhythm. There is always a light back bag where you can take the minimum (gourd, food of race, camera...) All the luggage and food are transported by the mules. If a medical problem (distortion for example)is to happen, it is always possible to call upon a mule. However, it should be known that the ground is not flat, that it is necessary sometimes to go up to climb a pass and that you will find certain stages a little long... In short, you will certainly have physical feelings;so, it is important to have the desire and the spirit of hiking and walking.
The itinerary indicated will be able to undergo modifications imposed by the mean level of the group, or by the climatic conditions.

A sleeping bag, a large bag for clothing, a small back bag for the day, walking shoes, crates, sandals for the bivouac, Kwe, polar, personal drugs, a gourd (1 litter or 2 litters), pastilles of water purification, sun lotion, a pair of sunglasses, cap, camera, a torch (frontal), spare batteries, toilet bag and other personal effects.
